Photo Travelogue :
Amitabh Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Vikram Bhat, Riteish Deshmukh and many others have time and again narratied their paranormal experiences while shooting at Mukesh Mills, Colaba. ( “Jumma Chumma” the famous song of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Hum, Pooja Bhat-Sanjay Dutt starrer Sadak, Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti and Shahrukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om and many more have been shot here ). Strange sounds, clanging of metals, quipment malfunctions, disembodied voices and whispers, footsteps, apparitions, fleeting shadows, the feeling of being watched or followed, getting pushed or someone brushing past, sudden drop in temperatures, getting lost - it has all happened to many in the premises which was once a thriving textile mill that fell into desrepair after two back to back unexplained fires that killed thousands who were trapped, which led to the place being entirely shut until the owner decided to rent it occasionally to film shootings and that is when the place started to get its current reputation of being extremely haunted. It is listed as one of India's most haunted places and I just had to tick it off my bucket list of spook locations. Not just the insides, even the outsides also is said to be haunted. So, one is guaranteed to encounter some kind of spook experience while in the vicinity. And, I was prepared :-)
Most scariest stories of the hauntings have been when an acrtress got possessed and her voice became hoarse and manly; and she growled at everyone to leave the place immediately scaring the entire crew. In another incident, a child actor suddently started to behave strangely with his hands being twisted at his back and then fell down like a lifeless doll while starting to roll uncontrolably. Not just the actors, the watchmen too have seen strange figures inside the premises after dark smoking or walking about when there was supposed to be none. Bipasha Basu felt someone messing with her where she kept forgetting her lines in certain area of the place and the pandit who performed pooja for safety met with an accident soon; Mr. Bachchan too is said to have heard strange sounds/voices while he was shooting. Riteish Deshmukh revealed that they were strictly advised not to go beyond a particular wall. The place doesn't allow any fire-related shootings - its said to trigger the spirits even more as they had perished in the flames. With so many accounts of paranormal activity circulating from top bollywood actors and crew members, this place was investigated by some notable paranormal investigators too.

welcome to spook unlimited...

warning signs all over the place forbiding entry to many areas...for your own good ;-)

recollect any movie scene beimng shot here? there are plenty...

green foliage...nature reclaiming it all... the chimney that spews unnatural smoke at odd hours and the old peepal that unnerves anyone who stands underneath it...

spread across ten acres, some strictly forbidden parts of the mill...

due to various film and ad shootings parts ( read - only some parts ) of this dilapidated mill sees splashes of colours/graffiti on its walls from time to time, but, nobody dares to stay and shoot after sunset...
Beyond these few selected parts, other areas remain strictly forbidden and remains shrowded in mystery forever.
Located at the end of Colaba causeway, near the sea, with its own private docks Mukesh Mills was built in the 19th century. It was a textile mill that employed thousands in its hay days, exporting cotton to England. After a massive fire that killed many, followed by another fire that killed many yet again, this mill was permanently shut down since. Address : Azad Nagar, Colaba, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400005, India
