A ROAD TRIP TO THE FAMOUS NABAGRAHA TEMPLE AT CHITRASAL/NABAGRAHA HILLS, GUWAHATI, ASSAM

Photo Travelogue :

Traveling is my passion! And, at any moment I'm up for some explorations - be it within city or out in nature. My fetish for traveling is unsatiable and even before I can think, my feet are already running way ahead. So, when I was in Guwahati last year, I couldnot stop myself from exploring its surrounding hills. And, boi' were there so many of 'em or what. The city is surrounded by lush green hills and one can never get tired of such fun ( of climbing them, duh ), anytime one wishes for some adrenaline pumping adventure. I decided to visit the most popular, and now sadly, the most 'populous' too - the Navagraha Hill also known as Chitrasal. Its part of the Kharguli and Ramchai hill ranges on north part of the city. The beautiful brahmaputra flows below and makes it a wonderful and peaceful sight. But, beware of the monkeys thou', they might just take that peace away :|
The road goes up the hill, steep at certain points, however quite safe and motorable. Its not a very big hill, so within few minutes you reach the top. For the adventurous, there are few random trails that goes further up and down towards the Kharguli hills...more exciting for sure!

Nabagraha Temple is the only astrological and astronomical centre not only in Assam, but in the entire North-Eastern region of India. It is situated in the south-eastern part of Guwahati city over the Chitrachal hill. Built by King Rajeswar Singha, the temple collapsed during the Great Earthquake of 1897. T. ( wiki )
