BOMBAY TO PIMPRI, PUNE BY BUS

Photo Travelogue :

I have travelled twice to Pune. This first visit was a sponsored one, where we were taken to Pimpri, Pune to visit a particular manufacturing plant of a company. We didn't touch the proper Pune city on this visit, ( which by the way, I was soon to make another trip to quite soon ). The journey takes little over two and half hours and we took the western express highway. Passing by some amazing views of the Sahyadri mountains and ghats, here are some pictures of the same.

Pimpri Chinchwad is the extended city limits of Pune, Maharashtra. The modern city developed from what were rural suburbs of Pune as a result of rapid industrialization that began within a decade after Indian independence in 1947. ( wiki )

BOMBAY - LONAVLA - PIMPRI ROAD TRIP

A Travelogue :

On 12th Nov'13, at a special invite by TataMotors, we went to Pimpri in Pune to visit their plant and more importantly have a meet-up with Anil Kapoor. The journey was quite an enthralling one - vrooming in a hired Volvo bus - over hills, tunnels, plateaus and plains, not to mention the peculiar black volcanic soil everywhere. I've lived more than half my life in Bombay, but only now I got the chance to visit Pune - though not Pune city proper, but the outskirts of it where Pimpri is located. Pimpri in Pune is a small town, mainly famous for the 800+ acres Tata Motors plant and its picturesque Lake House - and we got to see both. In November it is neither too hot, nor too cold - so its ideal time for a visit.
On our journey, we passed by the tiny hill station of Lonavla too and spotted few waterfalls on the way, meandering through the high rocks. There are tunnels and roads that cut through the rocks and what I noticed was, both sides of these rocky hills are netted with strong iron-nets, so that those huge rocks don't fall on passing cars in the highway. Highly Impressive! Enjoy the picture ride below :-)

The journey takes around 3 hours roughly, though on that particular day due to nature of the Event it was delayed and took longer. However, the return journey was pretty quick. There are both bus and train services to Pune, as well as pre-paid cabs.
