Photo Travelogue :
When we think of seas or oceans, vast expanses of sandy beaches flashes in our mind instantly. Enjoying sea side usually means enjoying the beaches on it. And, we aren't wrong. Thats what happens to the whole population. But what if I tell you, enjoying the sea sides doesn't always have to be the beaches? Surprised? Yeah...that can happen too. Keep reading :-)
Another way to enjoy the seas is to visit the lovely mangroves it offers. We all have heard of the Sunderbans, haven't we? Mangroves are the sea side forests...and we don't have to go all the way up to the Sunderbans in Bengal to enjoy them. Visiting the stretch of Thane Creek ( near Bombay ) will suffice too. Its a long stretch of mangrove forests along the sea inlet and there are many points to enter this area. Some parts of it have also been declared as a National Bird's Sanctuary for the various species of migratory birds that visit this place at different times of the year. There are other kinds of animals and reptiles for those seeking such thrills.
I visited the Visarjan spot of the Thane Creek...and enjoyed sitting by the calm waters gazing at the hills faraway; and, an occasional fisherman offloading his evening catch...pure bliss!
parsik hill at the back drop...
Many evening walkers come to this place...but, be aware, those waters can be deep!
dense mangroves...on either side of the almost 2-3 km stretch...
Thane Creek is an inlet in the shoreline of the Arabian Sea that isolates the city of Mumbai from the Indian mainland. It comprises the area between Mumbra Retibunder and the Mankhurd-Vashi Bridge ( wiki )
