Like many other top haunted places in India, Sinhagad fort was in my bucket list too for long ( with over 50k deaths that took place during various battles in Shivaji's time ), which was soon to be ticked off today. It'd be visiting history too. I had reached Pune early morning, and without any delay went to catch a bus to Sinhagad. The bus stop is 2-3 kms away from the Railway Station. I took an auto to reach there. They don't ply by meter, so, be sure to bargain the fare first. The fort is roughly an hour trip. Since, it was state transport, the bus fare was under 100 bucks, quite cheap. The bus goes every half an hour, so, catch the right bus. One bus goes up to the fort too.
my bus...its the usual BEST bus by Maharashtra State Transport, nothing fancy :-)
heading for the hills where the fort is located...passing by pretty water-bodies...
the very haunted Sinhgad College of Engineering lies on this route as well...
there it is, Sinhagad Fort right before my eyes, atop that hill...
the bus drops me off near the tracker stand...which is another half hour up journey.
there's another 2.7km shorter trekker's route from the base of Sinhagad village...
the road is good till a point and bad after a while...but the views, uncompromised!
the weather was perfect when we reached the top...but, hey, there's more further up!
~~~
took lift on an army vehicle downhill...they antakshar'eed their way down...
last glimpse of the army vehicle that gave me lift...
It was quite difficult to get a tracker on my downhill journey, as, all trackers were booked ( I hadn't booked one ). I saw an army vehicle starting to leave the place. I waved at it frantically to stop and asked for a lift. The bus the full, but, being army people they instantly agreed to drop me off at the tracker stand, where I could catch a returning bus. How sweet of them.
Sinhagad at 1312m(4304ft) height, is a hill fortress located at around 35 km southwest of the city of Pune, India. Some of the information available at this fort suggests that the fort could have been built 2000 years ago. The caves and the carvings in the Kaundinyeshwar temple stand as proofs for the same.
