We had started at 8.15am from Bhuj, and finally reached our destination at almost 2pm; of course, with various stops in between ~ to Kalo Dungar, India Bridge, Tent City ( read my previous posts ), lunch and various checks ~ getting permits et all. I was glad and very relieved to reach at last.

is it the moon's surface, we have landed?

If you've watched the films Refugee and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, you must've seen the white desert in celluloid already. But, its another thing altogether to view it in real. Quite an experience! More awesome is I heard, when you visit it on a full-moon night, especially, when all waters have dried up in the desert. Since, the air is salty, you feel different when breathing in, kinda heavy. Do take some mask if you have breathing problems.
I was very curious about the 'Spooky Part' of the Rann ~ which is - in dark nights, the appearance of unexplained strange dancing white lights phenomenon known as Chir Batti, in the Banni Grasslands ( the seasonal marshy wetlands) on its southern edge and in the adjoining desert of the marshy salty flats of the Rann ( which I was visiting that day ).

The Great Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India. It is about 7500 km² in area and is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world. This area has been inhabited by the Kutchi people. The best time for visiting the Rann of Kutch is during the Rann Utsav which is held every year from November to February ( wiki ).
