BHUJ CITY IN PICTURES - PLACES TO VISIT WHILE IN BHUJ CITY

Photo Travelogue :
Read first part - Here!

I left the PragMahal and Aina Mahal complex, via a small lane in its back and reached the main road. A look at my watch said, there was just little over an hour of sun-light left. My train was late in the evening, so there was still time for that. But, I didn't want to waste any day-time left. I had heard a lot about Bhuj's SwamiNarayan temple ( the old one that now lay in ruins ), and the new one too ~ about its magnificent visuals, so took an auto and asked him to take me there. Only, there are many swamy narayan temples in Bhuj. Which one was the main? Since, the auto was bit clueless too ( read ~ an idiot ), I asked him to drop me off mid-way, near the Hamirsar Lake. I thought, I'd explore on my own. So, here are some of the attractions I came across in my last 2 ( day-light ) hours in Bhuj. All the locations below are within 1-2 kms radius of the city centre.

and some ruins, due to 2001 Bhuj earthquake...looks like temple ruins, no?
Was it the ruins of the original Swamy Narayan temple, I wondered, that was constructed by Lord Shree Swaminarayan Himself. Bhuj is one of 6 such places. The Earthquake of Jan'01 destroyed the city of Bhuj, also, the side of the temple facing north. Miraculously the divine idols remained, without any damage, which were later installed in the new temple, built near the old site.

VISITING THE PRAGMAHAL PALACE AND AINA MAHAL IN BHUJ CITY, GUJARAT

Photo Travelogue :
Read first part - Here!

It was almost 4.40pm when I reached Bhuj. I asked the cab-wala to drop me near the famous PragMahal palace. The site closes at 5.30, so, I thought of having a quick look around. I have included visits to both PragMahal and Aina Mahal in this one single post ~ as they were adjacent to each other, and there was no need of extra travel. When in Bhuj city, both are worth visiting, simply to see the old architecture and objects of historical importance stored in both the places.

1. THE PRAGMAHAL PALACE
