of many movies, 'Lamhe' was the most prominent one to be shot here...
all guides to the palace never forget to mention this fact...


Rasoda ~ the royal kitchen, and other utility structures in the palace...


ceiling art...


the thick double-walled corridors around the palace is what keeps it cool...


a garden in between, surrounded by Diwan-e-aam, Diwan-e-khas, Sheesh Mahal etc...


I walk about the premises, soaking in the royalty in awe...


the Sheesh Mahal with intricate mirror work is my absolute favourite...

with Jaigarh fort beckoning me from behind the palace, I bid adiew to Amer...


there was some mela going on at the outer courtyard...bought some sweets...
Since, it was my 2nd visit to the palace, it was just a reminiscing and re-living experience for me ~ the palace being familiar from my visit before. Nonetheless, its always interesting to observe how the royalty lived in the past...

Opened in 1592 Amer Fort is a fort located in Amer, Rajasthan, India. Amer is a town with an area of 4 square kilometres located 11 kilometres from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Located high on a hill, it is the principal tourist attraction in Jaipur ( wiki ).

OFF TO AMER FORT, JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN

I take a bus right at the Hawa Mahal entrance, and head for Amer Fort. Since its a local bus it goes around and around the streets of the old city picking up passengers. The fare is under Rs.100, and we reach the Fort after 35-40 minutes. In private vehicle, it'd take far lesser time.


the bus finally leaves the old city via another pink gate...phew!


20+ minutes on, we pass by the Jal Mahal and another palace near it...


soon, the bus reaches a stretch where the road is carved out of the rocky hill...


from open tunnel to open space...the road clears...

and look, what comes to view ~ the Amer Fort...

another view of the fort...thats the Maotha Lake...The Maota Lake is located at the base of Amber Fort. The ancient name of the lake is "Mahavata", but it is commonly known as Maota due to the large trees located near the lake.


thats Jaigarh Fort at a distance in another hill, will go there too...later!


an old temple near by, but, I'm more interested in the palace...


so, up I go...


a turbaned rajasthani man coming out of a garden at the base of the fort...


pause a bit and look down...


I follow them, heheh...people keep getting in the frame #grrr


there's a temple at the fort, so, some devotees enter this way too...


colourful 'chatris' for sale on the way up...need it in the sun...


which gate do I take...my shadow tells me the first one...lol


and I enter...
There is security with metal detectors after this gate. Also, an entry fee to the Amber palace!
