VISITING THE ANCIENT HARHSHAT MATA TEMPLE IN ABHANERI, RAJASTHAN

Photo Travelogue :

The 2nd attraction in Abhaneri standing right next to the Chand Baori ( divided by a small lane ), is the very ancient Harsat Mata ka Mandir/ Temple. It is a really ancient site, hence, worth visiting ~ just to admire the ancient architecture. Most of it is in ruins, though. But prayers are still offered inside what remains of the temple. I explored the site, enjoy its pics :-)

STEPPING INTO THE CHAND BAORI STEP WELL, ABHANERI

Photo Travelogue :
Read first part - Here!

I was disappointed, I couldn't make it to Mehendipura that day ( famous for its Balaji temple for live exorcisms ~ some other time, perhaps ); but what I was to see in Abhaneri soon, more than made up for it. Abhaneri has the ancient Chand Baori or step-well, where in the past the royal ladies used to come to collect water or have bath. In today's time of municipal supply of water via PVC pipes & taps, its really fascinating to learn how people in the past made their water arrangements, in particularly dry and desert places like Rajasthan. The thinking and planning that goes behind constructing such a monument is simply mind-boggling. Hats off to those folks!

the architecture ( & engineering ) is simply fascinating....

I try counting the steps, then give up... ( 3500 of them over 13 storeys )

go deeper down those steps, and you find the well ~ filled with water...

entry beyond few steps is prohibited, so one can't go till the well...

there are corridors on all the sides, with ancient artefacts stored in some chambers...

In the premises, as I was looking around, some local kids, with big welcoming smiles on their faces, came up to me and talked in ( broken ) English. If I asked them anything, they replied to me in English. They were quite confident in what they spoke. I was amused. It seems, its a result of foreign tourists thronging that place or they must've been tutored by someone in the authorities.
