LOITERING AT THE VERSOVA BEACH

Photo Travelogue :
Read first part - Here

If you are near the sea, you gotta visit its beach. Bombay a.k.a Mumbai has plenty of beaches...most popular are the Juhu and Chowpatty beaches. But they are overcrowded all the time as they fall within main city limits. There are yet more beautiful beaches further up north - Versova, Aksa, Manori, Erangal, Gorai, Marve etc to name a few ( many more yet further ). Since I was at Versova, I decided to visit its beach that day. After returning from Madh, I enquired the route to the beach. Its not far from the Versova jetty. There are couple of entry points to the beach. I visited two. Here they are. Enjoy :-)

VERSOVA BEACH
1st entry introduced me to this rather small beach...it was kinda cute...with very few people...

RAMESHWARAM BEACH, CRAB BEACH - AN EVENING

Photo Travelogue :

Very frankly I dunno name of this beach. It lies between Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi, and we headed straight here after our earlier Ramanathaswamy temple and Kothandaramar temple visits. But since there were tonnes of crabs here, crawling about, playing hide and seek with the sea-waves ~ I've called it the Crab beach. If anyone knows its real name do let me know :|

The beach is huge ( we had to walk a long way from the car; spot the white dot - our car? ); and for a long while its like normal ground, with the sand slowly appearing and then its sandy all over.

It is always amazing to watch the sea-waves splashing against the sand. The waters weren't that fierce though, like we had seen in Marina Beach, Chennai earlier.

Look the things I spotted on the beach! Sea-shells, coconut-shells, bottles, footprints ( of animal as well as human ), a ship-anchor, and crabs. Oh, crabs were just too many in the beach and we spent a lot time just watching them run along the sides of the water, playing about. We were constantly on our toes though lest any of them chose to taste our blood for their dinner :o

We spotted some fishing-boats from far and very soon we caught up with some fisher-folks too, who had just sailed in and who were only too happy to show off their catch. Seeing so many fishes, we decided to have fish for dinner that night. And as night soon approached, we had to leave this scenic place. We hunted for authentic fish-curry shop around the little town and changed 1-2 dhabas, to finally find one. But alas, those dinner pics are lost :-( It was in a small hotel, and I had clicked pics of their kitchen too while going to wash hands, but sigh! The food was mouth-watering. After dinner, we headed back to our hotel; had a long day ahead of us.

MARINA BEACH, CHENNAI - AN EVENING

Photo Travelogue :
Read first part - Here!

For past 2 decades, I'm living in Bombay only and only for 1 reason - the sea. Needless to say, I'm partial when it comes to seas. I've seen Bombay and Goa beaches on the west coast and long ago the Puri beach in the eastern coast. From my observation, the eastern seas are more darker in colour and are also more ferocious. I heard lots about the Tsunami some years ago in Chennai, also seen the wreckage it caused, on TV. So, naturally I was curious to see the sea out here and also its famous beach - Marina!

MARINA BEACH, CHENNAI

After quite a day in Chennai, we headed for the beach. But to my amazement, it took quite a while from ITC Grand Chola Hotel, traversing through various lanes, twists and turns, flyovers etc. By the time we reached, it was already getting dark. The sun had vanished and just a hue of light was left, with the waves roaring and crashing in. From whatever day-light was left, I could see that the beach was really huge ( 13kms long, hence, longest natural urban beach ) and also dangerous - swimming/bathing is prohibited. It is very sandy and most visited too. The walk from the main road to the waters itself, took us quite a while. In the dark shadows sat many couples coothie-cooing, and I nearly fell over them. There were sea-shells, coconut shells, someone's sandals, ship-anchors etc littered across the beach here and there, that I kept stumbling upon; and quite a few stray dogs too. The street lighting doesn't reach to the beach, hence, soon it was pitch black. I could see numerous fishing boats and few fish-fry stalls too, with tiny lamp glowing.

Those dark pictures ( 3rd&4th pic ) has couples in them :p :D

Fish-fry stalls - You can see marinated fresh fish, laid out and some hanging raw, ready to be cooked and served. Though we sat and clicked pictures in this dhaba-kinda-shack, we didn't try, lest we got an upset tummy ( we had a long train journey ahead ). We didn't want to take any chances. Anyways, the beach smelt fishy enough and we had our fill of that. After quite an evening, where the others tried various filmy picture poses ( task of a blogger carrying the other ), finally, we headed back to collect food before going to the station enroute Ramneshwaram.
